What are the differences and similarities between bone marrow transplants, peripheral blood stem cell transplants and cord blood stem cell transplants?

Bone marrow transplants: Through multiple bone marrow punctures, bone marrow aspirates containing hematopoietic stem cells are withdrawn. This is a conventional transplantation method with reliable results. But the bone marrow extraction has to be carried under general and epidural anesthesia conditions.

Peripheral blood stem cell transplants: Medications are administered to release hematopoietic stem cells from the bone marrow to peripheral blood, followed by the use of a cell separator to collect hematopoietic stem cells from the circulating blood.

Cord blood stem cell transplants: A stem cell transplants refer to the method using stem cells extracted from the umbilical cord to reconstitute hematopoietic immunity.
